The Faculty of Education, Department of Basic Education, Classroom Teaching program was established to train primary school teachers who adopt innovative and creative teaching methods, integrate technology with education, and possess high-level communication skills. The program’s main goal is to train teacher candidates with qualities that will advance the quality of education in every institution in which they will work in the future.
The interdisciplinary approach and core curriculum application, which form the basis of education at Bilkent University, are of critical importance, especially for the infrastructure of classroom teaching. In this direction, an undergraduate program nourished by different disciplines has been developed, prioritising students to take courses ranging from art to technology, from the history of civilisation to positive sciences. Students will also take their first step into teaching with the practices and internships they will do in schools.
The program, which will be conducted mainly in English, aims for students to follow the professional literature on an international scale. This education model will prepare graduates to work not only in public schools but also in private schools implementing international programs in Türkiye and educational institutions abroad.
In the first year, students will take courses on educational science, computer applications, and mathematical thinking, strengthening this foundation in the second year with courses on teaching technologies and methods, assessment, physical activities, and literacy teaching. In the third year, professional communication, ethics, school management, and school experience are emphasised. Teaching practice, guidance, and research methods courses form the backbone of the fourth year.
Classroom teaching is the most essential building block of the education system. The students of the department will graduate with a teacher identity that will take on pioneering roles in basic education while imparting lifelong learning habits to children and guiding the individual and social development of new generations.
